Abatement

Any extensive abatement that is done for lead paint should be done by a Lead Abatement Contractor licensed by the State you live in. The process should then be monitored and tested by a Lead Evaluation Company (one that does inspections also) to determine that the lead dust is no longer present.

If a general contractor is hired to do remodeling a Lead Abatement Contractor can work with them to safely remove the lead and allow the contractor to remodel under safe conditions.

There are many options available to a homeowner in dealing with lead paint.

A lead consultant, one who does the inspection, can make these options available to you.

If your child becomes poisoned and has a lead level over 20 ug/dl, the local board of health is notified automatically by your pediatrician. The Board of Health can then determine what abatement you MUST do. You no longer have the option of doing less extensive abatement that may have had similar results. THAT IS WHY IT IS CRITICAL YOU KNOW YOUR LEAD HAZARDS BEFORE SOMEONE IS POISONED.
